Overview
Owlboy is an adventure game where you use the power of flight to explore large dungeons, roam freely in the skies, and fight dangerous opponents. You control Otus, a wee little owl from the floating village of Vellie, which has come under attack by sky pirates! It falls to Otus to protect his village.
As you explore, you will uncover a variety of useful items to assist you on your journey. Some characters can even join you and lend you their aid. Use your powers to help Otus find his place in the world.
Owlboy boasts amazing pixel graphics and a deep storyline, along with thrilling gameplay. Developed by D-Pad Studio (http://www.dpadstudio.com) - the game has been awarded Game of the Year at Norwegian Game Awards 2010 and was nominated in the category for Visual Excellence at the Independent Games Festival 2010.
Main Features
Hats
Otus can now equip hats, which makes for a really interesting customization system. Not only does the hats make Otus look spiffy, hats also has special abilities tied to them.
Usually, the player gains hats by unlocking a new gunner. Hats and gunners can be mixed to create unique abilities. We're still experimenting with different abilities and how they can combine, but in the end, I think we're going to end up with a good amount of variety.
Hint Screen
When showing off Owlboy to new players that entered mid-game, we encountered a problem. They did not know where to go, or what to do. Even though Owlboy is a game that is meant to be played from start to finish,
we decided to add a hintscreen, that tells the player what to do next, and what has happened previously.
Chests
Throughout the game, there will be hidden chests that Otus can open. These chests will contain different unique items that help Otus on his quest. To avoid
spoilers, we will not reveal the different items Otus can find. Whenever a chest is opened, a cutscene will show which item was found.
Dropped items
Enemies in Owlboy occationally drop items that Otus can collect. We recently decided to add a glowing effect on these items, so that the player
can better spot them as they are falling from an enemy. We've considered letting items float in the air as enemies drop them, but decided to let the dropped items fall to the ground as they appear.
We're adding a sound to let the player know that an item has appeared.
Save fishes
These well behaved fishes will help you store your progress. They'll inhabit bowls in houses and pools in dungeons inorder to get you the service you need. Be sure to talk to them when you find them.
